Carla Bruni wants smoking allowed for French super-models
Carla Bruni, fresh-made first lady of France, considers ban on public smoking has negatively effected the national image. New wife of President Nicolas Sarkozy, also ex-super model and singer, recently lobbied for legislation to allow smoking for super models, because as she said smoking helps supermodels to keep their svelte figures.
In France smoking has been prohibited since January 2008. From the beginning, ban met strong anti-support, because for decades lightening up was a part of French culture and style of life. Ban has already affected the local bistro culture, as even if in the past it was a usual thing for the French to start morning in caf?s with a cigarette and reading newspapers or eating, now lightening up is outlawed.
Carla Bruni tends to the same conclusion that’s why she wanted to gain for supermodels exemption from smoking. She thinks that ban has offended not only local culture but the image of the state.
“This has nothing to do with general public health; these super-models are France’s national symbol and we can’t have them gaining weight just because they have an extra urge for a croissant. Allowing super-models to smoke is a way of preserving France’s sexy image,” said Bruni-Sarkozy in an official statement.
Maybe a woman’s point of view on problem will persuade the government to offer freedom for the French beauty, as it is not a problem of health but of national representation.
