Checkpoints Authority recovered 2,495 cartons of contraband cigarettes
It was a simple day for Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority: checking up of hundred of cars and people. Although, the day seems to be more productive than it has been expected.
During a routine check of a truck, police has observed that the driver of the truck is getting nervous. It seems very suspicious. In the long run, Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority finds out why he reacts so. They have recovered a total of 2,495 cartons of contraband cigarettes hidden in a truck.
Cigarettes were found under the modified floorboards of the Malaysian registered vehicle. Sometimes, it impresses how ingenious some people are. Thanks God, there are professionals who can detect the ingenuity of them.
The driver of the truck was a 20-years-old Malaysian. Most interesting was that he denied that he knew about the loot. Inevitably appear the question “Then why he was so nervous when police checked up his truck?” As he said he was just paid by an unknown man 100 Malaysian ringgit to drive the truck to Singapore.
Counterfeit tobacco product contained about 500,000 sticks in all. This quantity amounts around $176,000 in customs duties and $16,000 in Goods and Services Tax.
