Cigarette and Tobacco Smoking Weakens Alcohol Effect
The cigarettes’ smoking weakens the alcoholic drinks effect as Texas A&M Health Science Center researches testify.
Wei-Jeun Chen at the head of group of the scientists came to this conclusion basing on the experiments on rats. In the course of the experiment various doses of nicotine and alcohol were instilled into the rats’ stomach.
It was cleared out that the nicotine addition led to a significant reduction of the alcohol concentration in blood. “Smoking” rats needed much more alcohol to reach alcoholic inebriation in comparison with non-smoking ones.
The reason of the interaction between nicotine and alcohol is not studied enough. The authors of the research suppose nicotine delays the stomach evacuation and the entrance of alcohol into the intestines- it is the place where its absorption into blood occurs.
Being in stomach the alcohol molecules break up generating the products of its metabolism; the level of the alcohol itself reduces.
Such experiments have not been carried out on people up to now. As the researches point out it is expected the analogous effect of the alcohol and tobacco combination on the human organism. Meanwhile such an effect can lead to a number of unpleasant consequences. Inasmuch as a wishful alcoholic effect weakens by nicotine essentially it can contribute to the fact those who smoke cigs should drink more to reach a prospective result. In other words cigarette and tobacco smoking contributes to alcohol consumption.
