Cigarette Smoke – Bad for Kids
Cigarette smoke attacks the most children and hurt their health, said researchers. As it is known, secondhand smoke is more detrimental for people health than smoking. For example scientists found that secondhand smoke is full of poisonous chemicals that can harm a child’s health. And because young children’s lungs are still developing, they are especially exposed.
This January was the first anniversary of California’s passage of the law that banned the cigarettes, cigar or pipe smoking inside a car with a person under age 18 years old. This law is very important in ensuring children’s health development, because secondhand smoke inside a car can be up to 10 times more detrimental than smoking in homes or other public places.
As it is known secondhand smoke is very harmful for people’s health. It is responsible for many serious health issues. Understanding the risks is the first step in protecting the children, and it’s very important to remember about these risks when smokers want to light up near a child. Secondhand smoke affects babies even during pregnancy. Mothers exposed to secondhand smoke during pregnancy are 20 percent more likely to have underweight babies. Prenatal exposure to secondhand smoke is also known to harm fetal lung development, which can cause numerous health problems later in life.
Secondhand smoke can is also addictive. Children can become addicted to nicotine even breathing secondhand smoke. The children’s exposure will be reduced only when homes will be smoke-free. When friends and family members will light up outdoors and nobody will leave cigarettes on table tops or counters where children can get a hold of them. And in this way the children exposure will be reduced.
