COBRA versus Ban
In Clinton, state Iowa, at least two groups have made coalitions to protest against the ban. These organizations make plans to fight legally against ban as it is direct infringement of their rights.
For example, Van Roekel, president of the Clinton Organized Bar and Restaurant Association, abbreviation COBRA, said his group has already contacted a law firm to fight against the ban.
“Our rights are being violated, and we’re not going to stand idly by and let it happen,” Van Roekel said.
June 30 was deadline for smokers to light up in public places as since July 1 the smoking ban got legal force in Iowa.
Cobra is planning to hold a public meeting concerning this rub.
Another Iowa anti-ban group is formed by Brian Froelich, owner of Fro’s Pub and Grub in Wilton. His group is called the Iowa Bar Owners Coalition and also plans a public meeting for anyone interested in the issue. They also appeal to a lawyer to protest against veto.
“It’s got nothing to do with smoking anymore,” Froelich said. “This is a rights issue.”
Rep. Polly Bukta, D-Clinton voted pro ban but she prefers to introduce a total ban with no exemptions.
“It really isn’t fair to exempt some and not others,” she said.
In Iowa lightening up is permitted at casino gaming floors that is why Bukta wants a total ban and even ban is impetuous rejected by public, she believed public safety was the most important issue.
“Change is never easy,” Republican asserted.
