In-car smoking was prohibited in N.S
In Wolfville, a small Canadian town, lightening up in cars is prohibited if there’s a child on board.
Even if the law concerning the smoking ban in cars has been already accepted by a large number of states and cities, this small town is the first town from Canada that decided to adopt this by law.
So, starting next June it is vetoed the lightening up in cars, otherwise the offenders would face a fine between $50 and $200.
This law was met by the town council with “by a round of applause”. The vote was unanimous: 7:0.
“What we would really like to do here is use this as a bit of a flag for provincial governments to enact legislation on a province-wide basis," said Mayor Bob Stead.
“We know nationally there are a lot of people looking at what Wolfville does in this instance.”
The Local RCMP will scrutinize this anti-smoking campaign. The town will also participate in this promotion handing out tickets and trying to educate people about the new bylaw before it starts.
Although, the council voted unanimous this bylaw, the civil libertarians are against it. They said that people ought to have the right to decide where and when to smoke and that this bylaw is invasion in peoples’ privacy.
