Serbian government decided on tobacco products
New plan was asserted by Serbian government in order to apply CEFTA in the tobacco production and trading sector.
It was very important finally to set a conclusive point on this part of Serbian economy, because agricultural and industrial sector are primarily sources of state income.
Studying economy of this state it can be resulted that it is well felt high export and import trade deficit what resulted a considerable national debt.
Minister of International economic relations, Milan Parivodic, had discussed with representative of EU Trade commission Peter Mandelson about problem of future tobacco industry and of the authorization of the regional free trade agreement CEFTA.
CEFTA agreement obligated Serbia to invalidate distinction in excise duties that charged upper taxes for imported cigarettes.These taxes affected home tobacco producers that need encouragement and protection.
After getting an agreement that satisfied both parts Parivodic and Mandelson related with details of future of tobacco business, it ought to be discussed by Serbian government session on Thursday, March 22, 2007.
As it was declared, final resolutions and details will be officially presented to public only after government discussions.Milan Parivodic affirmed that: “The EU Trade Commissioner approved of our proposal to solve the issue. He was satisfied with the accord we reached with Fillip Morris and Japan Tobacco over the state’s obligation towards the tobacco industry and he pledged on behalf of Serbia to nurture genuine free trade in the Balkans region."
