Tainan are not sure about further realization of smoking ban
As many states around, Tainan city planned to introduce restrictions for tobacco usage in public places. It was already applied a partial smoking veto on University Road near National Cheng Kung University and Yenping Street near the Anping District last year and the year before last, respectively.
Tainan City is the fourth largest city in Taiwan after Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Taichung and it is officially administrated as a provincial city of Taiwan Province in the Republic of China. Known as Prefecture City this region is inhabited by 1,105,515 people approximately.
This year space of tobacco lightening will come to the area between the ancient Fort Provintia and Martial Temple monuments, the city government said.
Now, the Tainan City government is unsure if it is needed to introduce smoking ban on business districts, cultural and school areas.
Uncertainty comes from health department that said that it wouldn’t so easy to introduce veto on public lightening of tobacco as it was in Tokyo. It is because of personalities of the countries’ citizens differ quite a bit from each other. “The key to a successful smoking ban relies on the cooperation of local communities,” the department added.
As it was said by department after the act will be approved by the city council it will follow the Tokyo model of implementation: signs will be posted and volunteers will persuade smokers to quit this habit. But it will take a certain amount of time until the smoking ban is fully executed,” they added.
