The horrible side of anti-smoking pill
If you decided to take a cure first of all you should understand that sometimes that which must save life can have a total opposite effect, as for example is anti-smoking pill Champix.
A federal report shows that almost half of those who take this medicament to quit smoking report suicidal thought. Moreover, some of them have already tried. It is awful.
Being offered for sale for almost a year, Health Canada received more than 100 reports of adverse drug reactions suspected of being associated with Champix. Of these, 46 involved psychiatric reactions including aggression, depression and suicidal thinking. Others involved amnesia, abnormal dreams, anxiety, insomnia, and abnormal thinking.
Champix is produced by Canadian’ Pfizer Inc. Company producer said Health Canada didn’t feel it necessary to issue a public advisory.
"It has been in discussion, but Health Canada didn’t feel that there is a necessity to issue any public communication," said Vratislav Hadrava, director of regulatory affairs and safety.
It was added that Health Health Canada reviews Champix and will "take appropriate action as considered necessary." But what about life of more than 220,000 patients to whom Champix was prescribed.
Even it was maintained that the reports are based on suspicion only and there is no direct proof of a drug’s effect, it is believed that Canada’s voluntary reporting system doesn’t receive all reports related to this pill.
"To date there has been no scientific evidence establishing a causal relationship between Champix and these reported events," Pfizer said.
"(Reports) can come from any person or source ranging from consumers to health care providers, and from phone calls to Internet postings," Pfizer added.
