UK spend more on cigarettes, report says
According to report, the British prefer to buy cigarettes and alcohol more that any other products. Tobacco and alcohol are placed on leading places at UK supermarkets and grocery stores. These products make up 13 of the top 20 sold brands.
The most famous brand is Lambert & Butler King Size, on which the British spend around ?1.379 billion during 2007. This brand is number one in the list.
The second comes legendary Coca-Cola with ?940 million, according to trade magazine The Grocer.
The ranking is continued by a list of cigarette brands as Marlboro King Size Gold, Mayfair King Size and Benson & Hedges King Size Gold took third, fourth and fifth places consequently.
The total cigarette sales know an increase of 4.4% in value during this year, which constitute ?9.75 billion, according to The Grocer magazine.
But what a cigarette without a drink is? So, the alcoholic brands for which the British have preferences are Stella Artois, Carling and Fosters, are also placed into the top 20 products of 2007.
Raking was determined in accordance with sales at tills of major supermarket chains, off-licenses, Co-ops, independent stores, garage forecourts and other grocery shops.
