Using More Forms of Tobacco is Dangerous
A lot of studies have shown that smoking cigarettes increased the risk of cancer and heart disease, experts warn. But there are a lot of people who smoke not only cigarettes but other forms of tobacco. Such people have higher levels of nicotine addiction, and to quit this habit is more difficult in such persons.
Researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention examined data from 13 regions in the 2008 and found that young adults aged 18 to 24 (5.7 percent), single people (4.8 percent) and men (4.4 percent) are most apt to use cigarettes in combination with other tobacco products, such as - cigars, pipes, bidis, cloves and other flavored tobacco.
Researchers also observed that one in four adults in the 13 states uses at least one form of tobacco. Use of one form of tobacco product ranged from 18.4 percent in New Jersey to 35 percent in West Virginia.
Other studies found that the use of any tobacco was higher among whites (26.2 percent) and blacks (24.4 percent) than among Hispanics (19.7 percent).
And a more interesting finding is that married people (21.2 percent) were less likely to use any type of tobacco than those who were single or even divorced (29.1 percent), and than those persons of an unmarried couple (36.3 percent).
But people with less than a high school education were also investigated and found that they were more likely to use any form of tobacco than those with some more college education.
“Every day, tobacco smoking kills more than 1,000 people and it even became the leading preventable cause of death. So, the more types of tobacco products people use, the greater is their risk for having many diseases, such as cancer and heart disease,” CDC Director Dr. Thomas R. Frieden. Researchers concluded that using a combination of tobacco products usually results in a greater need for nicotine. So, the more nicotine a person needs to satisfy their craving, the harder it will be for them to quit later.
And it is important to add that the added nicotine craving and tobacco usage also leads to a higher risk of having cancer in future.
