Wales Has Banned Mobile Tobacco Vendors
The Government of New South Wales has prohibited selling of sweet flavored tobacco products at festivals. The new law will reduce rate of underage smoking that is a big problem for many states.
Those who don’t respect the new ordinance will pay a fine up to $5,500. Moreover, health officers have the right to inspect premises.
Assistant Health Minister, Verity Firth, said “This kind of vendors is dangerous, as they attract many teenagers”.
“In these tents, there are often DJs designed to attract young people into the tents and attract promoters with the cigarette brand. In the olden days, they would have been called cigarette girls” she added.
Ms Firth claimed that tobacco companies used to add sweet flavors in cigarettes to attract young people. She said “Teenagehood (sic) is a key life phase for starting smoking”.
Ms Firth also said that according to the surveys, 80% of smokers started to smoke during their adolescence and with time it becomes harder to quit.
