What about Indian smoking?
Tobacco Act recently released in Chandigarh was clarified by the officials where it was indicated what rules and obligations of smokers and locals that allow this habit are. Smoking ban introduced in Indian states propagated a total veto of any tobacco product in public places.
Chandigarh, also called The City of Beautiful, is a city in India that is regarded as the capital of two states: Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is known for its high standard of living with the highest per ca-pita income in the country and tops the list of Indian States and Union Territories in the field of Human Development.
The government of Chandigarh works on turning “The City of Beautiful” into an absolutely smoke-free city. A spokesperson of administration affirmed “smoking cigarette or bidi or any form of tobacco at any public place is an offence.”
It was declared by officials that the Administration (including police officers, food and drug inspectors) are engaged in this process and they have been empowered to register any person that light up tobacco in public. Also it was added that “a minimum of two prescribed warning boards should be put up in all such places.”
The Tobacco Act also is referred to hotels, restaurants, bars, taverns, eateries, etc. Attending one of such locals, you must know that smoking is proscribed. This must be guaranteed by administration of attended hotel, restaurant or bar. It should be set aside a special isolated from public rooms place for smokers, where the air is cleaned and filtered. If these rules wouldn’t be respected, above mentioned facilities can lose their license.
It was added that smoking is permitted only at legally established shops that sell tobacco products. Also it is prohibited to sell any tobacco product to a person who is younger than 18 years of age. Seller has the right to ask for clients’ ID in order to check the age, if there is any doubt.
As well, it is forbidden advertisement of tobacco products. Spokesman affirmed that it is outlawed to take part directly or indirectly in promoting a smoking tobacco product. Otherwise, violators can be imprisoned up to five years.
