The name Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company can be found back during the 1812 post-war period. This cigarette producer has resulted from the merger between George Smith Myers of Missouri tobacco companies and Christopher's company, known as “J. E. Liggett and Brother”. Thus, 1873 saw the birth of a new cigarette company called “Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company”.
After only a year of activity, Liggett & Myers Cigarette Company has grown to the status of world leader of plug chewing tobacco production.
Since 1912, the cigarette form of tobacco has registered a big demand among smokers of that time. So, the manufacturer has enlarged the amount of produced cigarettes. L&M’s famous cig brands were: Crimps, Sledge, Music, Book, Good Form, Tent, and Long Voyage.
But there were also exceptional smoking products that made the name Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company famous worldwide. The first one was L&M cigarette brand, named after the initial letters of the company. It appeared in the form of chewing tobacco and later was transformed into a cigarette.
Pall Mall cigs was another key-brand that has brought Liggett & Myers Company international popularity. This tobacco brand was an elite product for people who like luxury. Pall Mall cigarettes were produced from 1911 till 1998. Now, this smoking product belongs to the world famous tobacco company, “Altria”, owned by Philip Morris.

In 1976, it has changed the name to Liggett Group Inc, with Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company as a division. In 1983 it becomes a part of Grand Met USA and the official name is changed to Liggett Group Inc.
The most significant period for Liggett Group Inc was 1995-96, when the famous cigarette brands L&M, Chesterfield and Lark have become the property of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
